Artist's CommentsFashion Timeline: 1760-1810 Year: ca 1775 Style: Georgian Dress: Robe à la polonaise Description: A robe with skirt fronts pulled back to form three coattail sections which are held up in a draped fashion by ties or drawstrings. It is worn over a matching or contrasting skirt having a flounce or deep border around the hem. Variations include the robe à la Reine, robe à la circassienne, and polonaise à deux fins (from "Galerie des Modes"). Please do not critique this, guys! I already know that there's a lot wrong with it and I plan on redrawing it after I finish the last three color images (the rest will probably be traditional sketches that I touch-up on the computer). It's not so much the dress that bothers me as it is the anatomy and lack of floral border... >O>;; It feels too plain after Corinne's picture... Plus, her hair looks too red. I really love red hair, but I can't use it for these characters since it'd be very inappropriate-- based on what I've read, red hair was considered very unfashionable during the 18th century! I don't think it was really until the 1790s that women gave up dyeing their hair... but even then, how many portraits of red-haired women do you see? But at least I forced myself to work with different colors? And yes, I'm still doing the "squiggly" flowers. I think they're effective for simplifying the floral patterns... I hope you guys enjoy this project There's more on the way! Chantal © ~Seitou Textures from *hibbary, plus my own. |

Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind?
Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind;
Er hat den Knaben wohl in dem Arm,
Er faßt ihn sicher, er hält ihn warm.
