Fashion Timeline: 1760-1810

Year: ca 1760-1765
Style: Rococo or Georgian
Dress: Robe à la française
Description: A gown style that had a fitted bodice opening to show a stomacher; also called a "sack back" because of the two large double pleats which hung freely at the back from teh shoulders to hem. It was very popular during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the 18th century. During the last quarter, until the Revolution, it was only for ceremonial court functions that it was worn in its original form (from "Galerie des Modes").

All other artwork (including the Disney stuff) is officially on hold until I've made a dent in this project, which is for my Independent Study in the fall semester. Yes. I'm starting it ahead of time... because I work s-l-o-w.... and I wanna put as much detail as possible into these dresses so they feel "authentic." I'm trying to keep everything as historically accurate as possible! If you see anything that's really "off" (and not because of the deliberate stylization ;P) then please let me know.

For more information about the project, keep an eye on my journal, which I'll be updating soon!

This is officially the most complicated dress I've ever drawn. Ironically, I actually finished it pretty fast... and the pattern was a lot easier to draw than you might imagine-- if you look closely, you can see that all the flowers are squiggly lines :giggle:

I hope you guys enjoy this project :aww:  There's more on the way!

P.S. I know the bows are enormous >__> Don't ask me why I drew them that way...
