Otakon '08 and some other random stuff...

I've been on a natural high for the past week or so and I'm not sure why because I've been swamped with school work o_o;; Well, I know part of it has to do with the fact that I may be going to Otakon this summer... ^_^ I've never been to Otakon or any other convention before, so I'm really excited about that. But I'm also really nervous because I don't know what to expect. I'm not certain that I'm going, but the odds are really, really good. If I do go, I'll be going with my father, one of his friends, and one of my old friends from high school. Another one of my friends from high school was supposed to come, but she starts college in August so our plans pretty much got messed up. I'm still trying to find more friends to drag to Otakon XDD;; So, anyone else going to be there? Can anyone tell me what to expect? I've heard A LOT of different things about anime conventions... and I'm not really sure what to believe o____o

And next year is gonna be awesome! I'm doing an Independent Study in art (even though I'm an English major)! It's going to be an illustrated timeline of fashion from 1760 through 1810. This is something I've always wanted to do, but I just never had the guts to tackle it. However, I'm confident that I can handle it now. So, that's one project that I know I'll definitely finish. Of course, knowing the slow pace at which I work, I'll be starting it during the summer, so expect to see more historically accurate work starting around the end of June. But I'm really lucky to be able to do this project since (from what I've heard) people in the art department at my university are really, really hesitant to work on projects with people who aren't art majors.

Umm... I think that's about it. Oh, I'm going to be reworking my character profiles for AFoR. I feel guilty doing simple backgroundless, PNG pictures, so I'm going to go for something more complicated with some sort of theme. That is all.

Lolita fashion is pure  </random>

I'm really excited about the project^^ I've never done anything this "large-scale" before.

And you have Goethe in your signature :D That's from Wanders Nachtlied, isn't it?

It is indeed Wandrers Nachtlied. :D

And gracious, you have Erlkonig! I was hoping to illustrate that - What a coincidence!

I'm so glad I've found another Goethe fan. :D

Hehe, I was debating whether I should use something from Goethe or Jonathan Swift (The Lady's Dressing Room is equally awesome).

Last semester, I did an Independent Study in German on Goethe :D This semester, I'm doing another, only it's on the Grimms fairytales.

I'd love to see you illustrate Erlkoenig! It's always been my favorite of Goethe's poems. Have you heard Sarah Brightman's Figlio Perduto? It's an Italian version of Erlkoenig set to Beethoven's 7th symphony. Rammstein's Dalai Lama is also a modernized version of the poem. So, it's still really popular :D

Best of luck at the Otakon! I hear that they're really fun! :D

Hm, project you say? *Is secretly excited* That sounds great! I can't wait to see what you'll do!

I'm going to Otakon for the first time this year, too. :) Am trying to figure out some way to get into a hotel room; someone on the Otakon message board's trying to get eight more people for a hotel room, so the coast per person would only be $75. (crossing fingers)

Hopefully it'll be good... :)

I keep hearing stories about all the crazy glomping that goes on at conventions :XD: But I'm looking forward to it.

And I'm excited about this project too. I've never done anything that's 100% accurate before, so this going to be a new experience for me^^

Yay! The only thing I'm actually worried about is the weather. I think it may have been last year or the year for that, that Otakon was held during the middle of a heat wave. So, I'm kinda debating over what I should wear. If the convention center is anything like my university, then it'll be sweltering outside, but freezing inside XD;;; But I'll probably wear Lolita so I can have an excuse to carry around a lacy folding fan 8'D

Ehehe. Baltimore weather, especially summer, is special, trust me. ;) Summer is hellish; it's pretty much always humid. Which is why i'm wondering why i'm being stupid enough to do long sleeves & to want a winter coat... But the Convention Center's ACed to death, apparently. But yeah: summer 'round here is hot, humid, & gross.
