Sorry for the long silence! It's only just occurred to me that I haven't updated this journal since December, which is rather unusual because I used to post journals about once a month back when I was more active on this site. I might try to log in to DA a bit more frequently this summer. I remember seeing a news article a while ago about DA finally cleaning up their site and dealing with all the virus-ridden advertisements, so hopefully they've finally done something to make this place more secure!
Anyway, what's going on my life you ask? Earlier in May, I officially finished my last graduate course! I don't have my MA yet, though― but I'm close! This summer, I have to study my butt off, since I'll be taking my comp exam in 17th and 18th century literature in the late fall. Then, in the spring I'll be writing my thesis, which should be lots of fun, since it involves vampires and Victorian decadence and all that jazz >:] After that, I'll have my MA and I'll be free to focus on writing. I've decided that I can't go in to teaching; I have no desire to teach and I don't believe in standardized education. But, more importantly, I've spent my whole life, thus far, in school, and I can't stand the thought of spending the rest of my life in school, even if I would be on the other side of the desk. For me, the thought of spending my whole life in a classroom, grading essays, is just spiritually paralyzing; I'd sooner cut my hands off. The only thing I can really see myself doing is writing.
Speaking of writing, I'm getting back in the habit of writing this summer. If you've checked the updated page on A Flock of Ravens, then you'll see that I have the project on hiatus. Even though I'm still drawing my characters, and working with them in that sense, all writing is on hold. For a while, I've actually been outlining another project, a gothic novel based on a fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm. This has sort of been my "top secret" project, and I'm at last ready to start writing it this summer. So, if I'm lucky, I should have the novel written before I start my thesis in the spring; if I'm really lucky, I'll have a deal with a publisher. But, I guess my point is that all writing for AFoR is on hiatus until I've completed this "top secret" project. And I know I sound kind of bummed out about not being about to work on AFoR... and I am. A little... XDDD;;; My "top secret" project― I guess I'll just call this my dark fairy tale?― is definitely something I feel like I have to write. I'm in love with the story, and I believe it has a much more "literary" quality to it, compared to AFoR; artistically, it's much more mature. On the other hand, I'm not so sure whether I'm in love with the characters... D: I guess it's just because I've known my AFoR characters for almost six years now, and these newer characters are, well, new. I'm a bit apprehensive, since I'm worried that I'll start writing and then realize that I don't love my characters. I really want to love them as much as I love my AFoR characters, but I'll never know if I don't give them a chance.
In other news, I've decided not to go ahead with fashion blogging. However, as a sort of compromise, I have made a Tumblr account, which you can find here: calantheandthenightingale.tumb… the description says, it's dedicated to all sorts of prettiness XDD Right now, I'm trying to restrain myself from going crazy posting all the pictures of lolita clothing that I've accumulated on my computer. It's proving very difficult... >3>

I'm so torn right now...
Do I want the summer to go on and on? Or do I want for Halloween the autumn to come?
Summer always feels so hectic, and I always have an incredibly difficult time focusing on work whenever it's nice and sunny out, so part of me is welcoming the cooler, gloomier days of autumn. On the other hand... summer is basketball season for me, and I hate seeing that end. Given how chaotic the past week has been, though, I think I'm leaning more towards wanting the autumn to hurry up and start already.
Although I managed to finish my fourth design for Fallene's wardrobe and successfully recolor the three previous designs, I still have to tackle all
New WIP folder and other stuff
Since it usually takes me forever to complete stuff, I've decided to create a "Sketches and WIPs" folder in my gallery that way I can keep everyone updated with my progress on my current projects. Technically, these pictures should probably go into "scraps," but I know that most people don't view the scraps gallery, plus I have so much horrible old crap in there that I just felt like it made more sense to create a new folder. Hopefully, having this folder will encourage me to log into my DA account more often.
Also... I really can't wait for Sailor Moon Crystal. Granted, I wasn't ever a super huge Sailor Moon fan, but I think that's mostl
I'm back!!!
I didn't mean to disappear again-- I swear! But it really seems like, every time I say that I'm going to come back to this site, something happens and I vanish. For like a year. Seriously, this happens. Every. Damn. Time. I've just been super busy lately. I'm juggling a million different things: editing my novel, polishing up my query and synopsis, studying Japanese, revisiting A Flock of Ravens, etc. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get a literary agent soon (I still haven't started querying) because I'm already thinking about moving on to the next project, which will, of course, be A Flock of Ravens. Time to update this thing!
I've been away for a pretty long time. Oops. I never really meant for that to happen. I know I've been uploading less and less every year, but I just got off to a bad start in 2013. I feel like I had a mini meltdown where I was just really depressed, feeling incompetent about my work and everything; the early part of the year just wasn't good, and my habit of being really critical and hard on myself didn't help matters any. So I took a break from uploading and went back to basics-- studying anatomy, trying out different styles, and just sketching really sloppily because sketching is always relaxing.
